Chairperson Rev. Donald Winch - 268-4458Each pair of donated glasses is cleaned, sorted and analyzed for its level of correction and made ready for the needy in Third World countries. Lions International uses the glasses in their program in Central and South America and more recently in Africa. Lions and non-Lions programs through out the third world countries use a large block of the used eyeglasses. Annual collections are about 85,000 pair with distributions of about 55,000 pair. Since July 1989, recycled eyeglasses have been sent to Bali, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Kenya, Nepal, St. Lucia, Venezuela, the Yucatan, India, Mexico, and Brazil. |

Chairperson: Vic Stenger 268-3464Each year thousands of individuals are faced with the devastating effects of corneal blindness. You can open the window of the world by giving the gift of sight and pledging to donate your eyes upon death. Anyone can donate! You are never too young or too old to be an eye donor. The color of your eyes doesn't matter. Your gender, blood type, race, or how well you see doesn't matter, either. Even people with eye diseases can donate their eyes. In fact, diseased eyes are invaluable for use in research of a cure. There is no cost to the Donor or the Donor's family. All costs associated with the program are covered by donated dollars and processing fees charged the tissue recipient. In fact, it is illegal to buy or sell human eyes, organs, and tissues. Problems with disfigurement are very rare, and usually no visible signs are present to show that a person's eyes have been donated. Normal funeral arrangements can be made. Also, all major religions fully approve and support eye donation as a humanitarian gesture. There is no reason why YOU should not be an eye donor. PLEASE sign a Lions Eye Donor Card or if you live in ILLINOIS sign the back of your driver's license. Tell your relatives, physician, clergy and friends of your desire to become an eye donor. |

Chairperson: Jerry Stout 268-3609In October 2004 Lions of Arcola will join Lions statewide in this fundraiser for the Foundation and our club. Besides door-to-door and 4 way stop (Route 45 and Route 130) collections, we encourage underwriters to "purchase" cases of candy. Each case is $50, and you can underwrite as many cases, or fractions of a case as you please. |

Coordinator: Bill Coombe 268-4988The Arcola Lions Club has been sponsoring scouting since 1949. In September 1956 the Arcola Lions Club, headed by President Bernard Nay, voted to enter into a lease agreement with Arcola Library Board for the back lot of the library property on East Main Street to build a scout cabin for Troop 96. The log cabin structure that was built has been the primary meeting place for all scouting programs. |

Chairperson: Curtis Atteberry 268-4462As a fund raising the Arcola Lions Club runs a food stand during the Arcola Broom Corn Festival each fall. Amazing Arcola celebrates its heritage as the "Broom Corn Capital of the World" every year with this renowned festival featuring broom making, a huge arts and crafts show, free entertainment, great food, and one of the largest parades in downstate Illinois. |
